Roscoff to St. Pol de Lèon (Château de Kernèvez)

STAGE PROFILE : approx. 7km? – time: 1hr 30m?

(To go into Roscoff town first via the coast path, go right from the terminal and follow the red and white GR® waymarked footpath past the Chapel of Ste-Barbe and then continue by road.)

The SSW route leaves directly from the ferry terminal at Roscoff. Turn left and follow the car exit route from the port. Turn left at the T-junction, cross the railway and immediately left along a track. At road, go left and continue along past the Jardin Exotique (off to left). For a good view over the bay make a brief detour past the Jardin Exotique to a picnic area. From here you can see the new pleasure port and some distinctive rock formations.

Follow road gently up and turn left, back over railway line. At T–junction, turn left to go down to the coast at Plage de la Grande Grève. After the beach the route swings inland again. Keep bearing left to come back to the sea at the Plage de Kersaliou (seasonal refreshments).

Go along the beach for 200m, then up a few steps and left along a path bordering fields behind a high hedge. Come down steps onto road at the Grève de Man.

Continue above beach, then bear right past camping, and pass access road for Ilot Ste-Anne.

Continue ahead along the shore road (refreshments here, St Pol to the right) then go along past the entrance gate to the Château de Kernévez. Cross a causeway and follow the coast....
...At this point you have joined together with the Way described on sheet B-01b [Moguèriac - St-Pol-de-Lèon; St-Pol-de-Lèon - Morlaix, in the second section, i.e. from St Pol-de-Léon to Morlaix (2nd paragraph, 2nd sentence... ‘follow the coastal path....’)

NOTE: If staying overnight in St-Pol-de-Lèon, turn right heading inland (west) at the Parking area after Champ de la Rive (see map) and make your way to the Cathedral. The St Joseph Chapel of Hospitality has recently been restored and is available to pilgrims and there are other accommodation possibilities (see accommodation sheet). In this case, again use sheet B-01b, second section from St-Pol-de-Lèon to Morlaix, but starting from first paragraph [at 0.0km] and leaving from cathedral porch.
